ACCIDENT & EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

The Accident & Emergency department at LITO Private Hospital is a designated major emergency center that provides 7 days a week, 24 – hour service.

It is one of the busiest Accident & Emergency department in our area.

The case mix is varied comprising major trauma, acute medical emergencies and acute gynecological emergencies.

The department is a very modern and is fitted with the latest medical equipment.

ANESTHETIC DEPARTMENT

The anesthetic department provides anesthesia for general surgery, gynecology, obstetrics, orthopedics and trauma, urology, radiology and community dental services.

The department has a high standard of modern equipment to work with, and is working with the management to keep up with the latest developments in both, theaters and pre – assessment technology.

These will enable us to improve safety still further and to provide a more efficient service tailored to the needs of the individual patients.

CARDIOLOGY

The cardiology department provides a full range of investigations to detect heart disease in outpatient’s settings. A range of tests to detect heart disease is provided and includes:

Ø Electrocardiography (ECG) including the provision of a 24-hour holder monitor.

Ø Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring.

Ø Echocardiography.

Ø Treadmill exercise “ stress – testing”.

A full range of cardiac rehabilitation services are offered to people recovering from a myocardial infarction (heart attack).

COLORECTAL SURGERY

A colorectal department is treating both elective & emergency patients with colorectal disease. Offering an outpatient’s facilities for consultation, examination and follow up, including a monthly family history clinic available.

Endoscopies services (colonoscopy, flexible, sigmoidoscopy and interventional endoscopes surgery) are provide in the dedicated day surgery unit, jointly with the gastroenterology department.

DERMATOLOGY

The dermatology service at the LITO Private Hospital, is provided within a multidisciplinary setting offering a wide range of outpatients investigations and treatment for patients with skin disorders, both adults and children.

ENT

ENT (ear, nose & throat) clinics at LITO Private Hospital are also offering inpatients & outpatients services treatments.

ENDOCRINOLOGY

The endocrinology department provides an extensive range of investigations and treatments options with endocrine or hormone disorders.

Some of our services include:

Ø General endocrinology clinics for assessment of any endocrine disorders. Thyroid clinic, for typical lumps, assessment for radioiodine treatment and fine-tuning thyroid hormone replacement.

Ø Pituitary clinic. A small monthly clinic for follow up patients with pituitary disorders including patients who have had pituitary surgery or radiotherapy.

GASTRONTEROLOGY

The gastroenterology team aims to provide a high quality, rapid service to its patients. We ensure that the patients and their GP’s are kept fully informed.

Patients with abdominal or gastrointestinal symptoms are initially either seen in the outpatient’s clinic or are referred directly for endoscopes, which is carried out on the day care unit.

We continually seek feedback from those who use the service to ensure that we are at all times fulfilling the patient’s expectations.

GENERAL MEDICINE

The LITO Private Hospital provides a comprehensive range of services for general medical patients across several specialties. The department if general medicine, and the subspecialties of chest medicine, diabetes, endocrinology, gastroenterology and adult medicine are part of the directorate of acute medicine.

Patients who are acutely unwell and require inpatients care are generally admitted to the acute medicine unit. Patients come to this unit via the accident and emergency department, or via outpatient’s clinics at the hospital. Patients are then allocated for further care depending on their illness. Those requiring specialist care are transferred to the appropriated ward area.

Each of the general medicine doctors also runs outpatients services, including both specialty patients and general patients (such as follow ups after hospital admission).

GENERAL SURGERY

The LITO Private Hospital provides a comprehensive range of general surgical procedures in both inpatients and day care settings. The depth of sub-specialty expertise in the department is extensive and the standard of general surgical expertise high, including laparoscopic surgery where clinically appropriate.

A comprehensive pre-assessment service checks all patients 2 to 3 weeks prior to surgery to ensure that they are fit and fully prepare for their operations.

Patients are admitted and discharged on the same day unless they need to spend an extra few hours in hospital.

GYNECOLOGIST

The Division of Gynecology is focused on providing state-of-the-art therapies and compassionate care to women dealing with any number of gynecological issues, including: Women's Wellness, contraception, sexually transmitted diseases, menopausal medicine and hormone replacement therapies.

NEUROLOGY

The department of neurology provides a comprehensive outpatients general neurology service sub-specialty clinics are also available in areas such as multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.

ORTHOPAEDICS & TRAUMA

The orthopedics & trauma unit at LITO Private Hospital provides a service for patients suffering from injury and for those having conditions affecting their bones and joints.

Trauma patients may be admitted by the accident & emergency department whereas those not requiring emergency admission are seen in a dedicated fracture clinic that takes place 7 days a week.

A comprehensive plan of investigation and treatment is designed for each individual. The aim of this is to identify patients who have, or are at risk of developing, osteoporosis and initiate treatment and lifestyle advice to minimize the potential damage this disease can cause.

PEDIATRIC MEDICINE

The pediatric department caters for patients from the age of 0 to 16 years. The Special care baby unit at LITO Private Hospital supports infants who are born at 28 weeks of gestation and above. The unit offers full intensive care facilities as well as lesser grand’s of support. Infants are mainly received from the maternity services.

The pediatric ward provides a range of cots, cribs and beds for children who require in patients management of medical and surgical disorders.

RADIOLOGY

Demokritos Diagnostic Radiology Center provides up to date diagnostic facilities, which includes mammography, ultrasound, x-rays and a spiral CT scan. The center is run by Dr. Maria Andronikou Zouvani, who received her medical degree from the university of the Witwatersrand in South Africa in 1990, and then completed her specialty in radiology at the same University in 1996.

The department has trained radiographers who take the x-rays and Dr. Maria Andronikou Zouvani interprets and reports the x-rays, mammograms and CT scans. She also performs various ultrasound examinations, including Doppler examinations, neonatal cranial and hip examinations for which she has the approval of the Fetal Medicine Foundation in the United Kingdom.

Dr. Maria Andronikou Zouvani also performs minor invasive procedures under ultrasound guidance, including fine needle aspirations and drainages.

LITOMAN LAB

Litoman laboratory is a private licensed laboratory and is run by highly experienced qualified laboratory scientists. The laboratory commenced work in 1995 with the following departments

It is equipped with modern new autoanalysers in biochemistry, heamatology , sperm quality analyzer, cardiac reader, blood gases etc. Lists of laboratory tests follows.

Special tests which are not performed in our laboratory are sent to reference laboratories in Cyprus and abroad.

Blood collections are performed daily in the laboratory as well as in the wards of LITO private hospital.

Litoman laboratory is providing services for the health care schemer of many insurance companies and union medical funds (ΑΗΚ, ΑΤΗΚ,ΕΤΥΚ, ΕΚ,ΠΕΟ). Our laboratory is also authorized to perform the laboratory tests needed for health certificates for work permit and tests needed for food handlers.

To ensure the quality of the work performed in our laboratory internal quality controls and external quality controls assessment schemes are in effect.

Internal quality control assessment is run weekly from control material obtained from recognized firms abroad as suggested by the manufacturers.

External quality control assessment scheme with ΕΣΕΑΠ is in effect since 1996. 280 laboratories from Greece and Cyprus are taking part in this external quality control assessment and our results are very good.

Litoman laboratory is also taking part in the program for the safe disposal of laboratory waste products.
